Senior Adults Ministry
“Youth is not a time of life – but a state of mind”
In 1973 “Keenagers” was started by the late George Smith as a means to
connect older members of the Grove together in a caring community; providing support, friendship, fellowship and ministry opportunities within this group of people. The name 'Keenagers' was chosen because the group wanted a name that reflected a ”young at heart” way of living.
The Keenagers are treasured members of the Grove family.
Their wisdom and experience is an important resource for the church.
The Keenagers are active in a variety of ministries
from the youngest children to residents of assisted
living facilities and shut ins.
In 1983 Hester Motley, stepped in to continue the work George started. Under Hester’s leadership the “Keenager Fun Band” was created. Today our Keenagers are well known for their “fun band” that mimics famous entertainers and features music that could best be described as “golden oldies” the Fund Band is still led by Hester Motley. They perform at special church events and for residents of assisted living facilities throughout the Richmond metro area.
Floyd and Sara McConahy took over the leadership of the Keenagers in 1992 The McConay’s loving led the group for 9 years.
Today the Keenagers is led by Dick Kmetz, he has led this group for the past 8 years and finds interesting and entertaining guests to inform amuse and inspire the group.
The Keenagers is a great place to connect, make new friends, and have fun. The Keenagers has become a special community of members, and non members of Grove. You don’t have to join the church to join the keenagers.
The group meets on the 4th Tuesday of each month (12 noon) for a covered dish luncheon.
The keenagers also travel together. A variety of bus trips are planned each year.
Come join in we the keenagers would love to have you be a part of their dynamic group.
